SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

Thursday, May 26, 2022

7:00 pm – 8:30pm - Virtual

     Silent Auction

     Council will put together Silent Auction prizes in a flyer to send out

     Council to create “Principal For The Day” for raffle (think of some ideas the kids can do)

     Subway Lunch - raised another $1500 for last 6 weeks

     Look into bringing back Mother’s Deli for hot lunches for pasta next year

     Lunch program brings about $3000 all year long

     Staff Appreciation

     Last appreciation for the school year

     Who will coordinate?

     Who can contribute financially?

     Choose a date - aim for mid-June

     Parent Engagement          

     We can send out Paula’s video link for families to enjoy   

     Do we still need anymore virtual events given we are now “back-to-normal”?

     Constitution Review

     HUGE THANKS to Amanda, Haafid, Sarah, Heidi and Scott for taking on this daunting task!

     Sarah will send out final Constitution to Council

     Sustainability

     Bike to School Week next week - there will be someone at the Fun Fair that will give a tune up / safety check for bikes and give away prizes

     Wendy packaged 70 wildflower seeds to Ms. Hang to distribute to Grade 3s

     Fun Fair Update

     Only school in YRDSB holding a Fun Fair - not charging wristbands this year

     Outdoors mainly, but there will be a few activities indoors, which we will ask people to be masked

     Karate Demo, Magic Show and Ukulele Club Performance in the gym

     Currently have 4 tents (including Karen) - could always use more for shade and for vendors

     Ice Cream Truck, PEI Fries, Gangster Cheese (Halal, GF, Vegetarian), cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, lots of activities planned but definitely a scaled down version from previous years

 

     Graduation Update

     Looking for volunteers to help with decorating Grad Day on Monday, June 27 from 2-4 PM. Sarah to send messaging to Scott to add to weekly Cobra Newsletter

     Scott has a green screen we can use for photos; Haafid has a frame as well

     Grade 8 grad trip to Wonderland confirmed - thanks to freezie sales

 

     Snack program grant approved again for next - $10K approved

     There is another grant for $5K to go towards growing our own garden - will apply for that next year as we missed the deadline this year

     Wendy to send Leeann contact for Ipana Valley Banana Brownies

 

     Douglas is wrapping next week - murals are incredible. They are doing ind. canvasses and will share their own story.

 

     Two CVPS students designed “Positive Spaces” stickers and their design was selected by YRDSB for all schools to use. These stickers are placed around schools to let students know it is a safe and positive space.

 

     Clubs: Intermediate girls basketball tournaments went really well and had a great season; Floor hockey just wrapped up; Ukulele Club will be performing at the Fun Fair

 

     Northern Karate classes - over 75/80 students involved in the lunch program; Trying to sign up for lunch and after school programs for next year (piano lessons, etc.)

 

     School is still doing a very good job with COVID - haven’t seen any big blooms or jumps in cases.
