1)      Welcome & Acceptance of Current Agenda (Amanda)

-all were in favour of the agenda

                                               

2)      Acceptance of October Meeting Minutes (Amanda)

-Katherine accepted the minutes and Sue seconded the motion

 

 

3)      Committee Updates:

a)      Fundraising Update and Voting of Events

Spiritwear:

-received notice from the vendor that the order will be ready this week for pickup

-delivery of the order will take place either later in the week or early next week

-all orders will arrive in a single delivery

 

Gingerbread Houses/ Cookies:

-the end date for orders was this past Friday

-the amount of sales will be known tomorrow

-member of council have volunteered to assist with picking up of the gingerbread houses/ cookies

 

Hot Pasta Lunches:

-generating approximately $200 per week for the pasta lunches

-the vendor provides extra meals each week

-extra meals should be kept in the freezer in the health room

 

Upcoming Cornell-A-Thon:

-discussion about possibly spending less money for the DJ

-have Cornell-A-Thon on March 27th

-discussed sending out a survey for students to decide on the different ‘A-Thons’; this will    be sent out at the beginning of January

-need to start looking for donations for prizes

-send out donation pledge sheets at the end of January or beginning of February

-send out information about the Cornell-A-Thon before the holidays in December

 

Movie Days/Nights:

-the movie license was purchased; funds donated by Haafid, Chris N. & Chris Z.

-a streaming license was purchased

-will sell pizza and popcorn

-will aim to have the movie night on December 12th

-will send out announcement about the movie night by next week

-there will be an admission fee, sale of pizza and popcorn

 

b)     Parent Engagement

-discussion about doing something regarding mental health; possibly a mental health expo from different cultural groups

-discussion about targeting the mental health workshop/ speaker towards students rather than parents

-discussion about making parent council more visible to the school community; will have profile of each parent council with contact information which can be posted on the bulletin, website and blog

-volunteer forms need to be reviewed

 

 

c)      Healthy Schools

-had ‘Take Me Outside’ day; the kids appeared to enjoy it and came to school earlier

-hot chocolate was given out and people brought their own mugs

-will have another ‘Take Me Outside’ day on December 21st

 

 

 

4)      Treasurer’s Report (Kelly)

-no update

5)      Update From School (Scott/ Vivianne)

-the winter concert will be moved to the end of February or March

-musical will be at the end of April

-Me to We team will have a global awareness night for families possibly in February

-Fun Fair in June

 

-the school received $2000 from Northern Karate due to the enrolment of students who paid for the program during lunch hour

-Kids Great Minds, Mad Science Group & Northern Karate were some of the paid programs this year

 

-will be having a clothing drive for individuals in need in York Region

 

-the school is trying to reduce barriers to school participation including financial barriers

 

-‘Every Student Counts’ survey letter was sent home with each student; when the school

receives the results, it will be shared

 

-will be starting house teams; to make learning more fun and introducing healthy competition

 

-there is a welcome and belonging component within the leadership team; played movie “Rising Above’ for the grade six and eights

-grade 8 students will be at the doors in the morning to assist with welcoming students

-discussion about changing language at a micro level

-it has been noticed that new children at the school tend to wander; will have welcoming team

-the school is trying to find strategies to engage with those students who feel that they don’t fit in or don’t have positive relationships in the school

 

-a new CYW will be joining the school

 

-newsletter sent to parents about opening an Edsby account to schedule teacher interviews

 

6)      New Business (All)

-next meeting will be held on January 14, 2019
