As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Cornell Village P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.  The school promotes a safe and supportive learning environment.  This is done through the Board's Safe Schools Policy and Procedures and Character Education Initiatives.  Cornell Village provides a variety of Special Education Programs, (i.e. monitoring, resource/withdrawal, partially self-contained, behaviour resource) to a diverse student body.  We are also very proud to offer the following programs to our students:
  • Arts Programs both curricular and extra-curricular (Drama/Visual Arts/Musical Arts)
  • Student Leadership program through our Student School Council
  • VIP program
  • Winter Electives Program (Skiing/Snowboarding)
  • Hot Lunch Program (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays)
  • Intramural Sports program during lunch hours
  • Safety Patrol Program (with York Region Police)
  • Anti-Bullying Programs
  • Ongoing and informal social skills counseling (SERT and CYW)

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Anti-Racism and Ethno-cultural Equity
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences.  Cornell Village P.S. supports and implements the ideals and policies outlined in the Board's Anti-Racist/Ethno-Cultural Equity policy.  The school's staff integrates anti-racist/equity learning into regular programming in an attempt to create a school environment that is inclusive, supportive and respectful in all regards.
In addition, Cornell Village P.S. supports the development of Character Education in an anti-racist, anti-bullying learning environment in the York Region District School Board. The following is an overview of the school's Character Education Priority:
  • School-wide Character themes – focusing on Respect, Responsibility and Empathy
  • Empathy Programs to support Yellow Brick House, Covenant House and the local food bank
  • Monthly newsletters focused on our School Plan for Continuous Improvement
  • Grades 2 to 8 use of School Agenda Planners to focus on homework completion and parent communication
  • Pathways-type Pre-School Drop-in Program
