PAD40 :: Outdoor Education

The aim of the
Outdoor Education course is to allow participants to enjoy the outdoors in a
safe and meaningful manner. Students
will be immersed in lessons and activities where they will gain the knowledge
and skills required to be active participants in outdoor, wilderness
activities. By the end of the course
successful students will be able to participate in a variety of outdoor
pursuits with proficiency - as individuals, members of a group, and as leaders.
Students will grasp the opportunity to improve their
level of physical, social and emotional wellness through taking part in various
outdoor activities and interacting with the natural environment around us.
Outdoor education gives students the opportunity to
experience the out-of-doors in a positive way; to experience all that nature
has to offer; recognize their role as part of the delicate balance of nature
and step outside their personal comfort zone.
The fees for this course can range between $200 and $400 depending on the Field Trips that the class plans.

This grade 9 gender segregated Health and Physical Education course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement skills and the application of movement principles while working on their personal fitness and physical competence.
In Health, the students will learn about SMART goal setting as well as IDEAL decision making while they investigate issues related to personal fitness, healthy sexuality, and the use and abuse of drugs.
The education through sport phylosophy utilized in this course results in a program designed to develop goal-setting, communication and social skills along with attention to safety and injury prevention. |

PPL20 :: Healthy Active Living |

This grade 10 gender segretated Health and Physical Education course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, and fitness.
In Health, the students examine issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, and substance use and abuse. There is an emphasis throughout the course on the use of informed decision-making, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices. |

PPL3O :: Healthy Active Living

This co-ed Health and Physical Education course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that have the potential to enhance a life-long pursuit of fitness and healthy exercise.
Students work at developing personal competence in a variety of movement skills and are given opportunities to implement goal-setting, decision-making, social, and interpersonal skills. In the Health section of the course, the students study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health, and personal safety. |

PAF 308/408 :: Fit, Firm and Toned
These courses emphasize regular participation in a wide variety of
enjoyable physical activities that are engaging for girls interested in
pursuing lifelong fitness objectives. The participants will be exposed to a
variety of activities that have feminine appeal such as aerobic fitness, yoga,
Pilates, Tae Bo, body sculpting, step circuits and fitness circuits. This course also emphasizes toning and firming exercises as well as strength conditioning for the female athlete.
Students will apply movement principles to ensure safety and participation in the different activities to enhance their personal competence, self esteem and
personal fitness. They will investigate
and examine issues related to personal safety, mental health and well-being and
goal setting skills to promote life long healthy active living.
Throughout this course, the focus
will be on the balance of the mind, body and spirit connection for optimal
health and wellness. The 308 course is offered in even years (2014, 2016 etc.) and 408 course is offered in odd years (2015, 2017 etc), since the programs are individualized either course may be selected by grade 11 OR grade 12 students. Therefore, a student may choose to do the 409 course in her grade 11 year and the 309 course in her grade 12 year.

PAF 309/409 :: Personal and Fitness Activities
These courses focus on the development of a
personalized approach to healthy active living by giving the students the
opportunity to fulfill their personal fitness goals through activities such as
strength training, aerobics, P90X, TRX, Hang Fitness, Bigger Faster Stronger,
circuit training and plyometrics. The class members develop and implement
personal physical fitness plans.
In Health, they are given opportunities to
refine their decision-making skills related to healthy eating, active living,
conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. Students will use the components of
healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health, personal safety,
stress management, nutrition and the physiological benefits of physical activity.
The 309 course is offered in odd years (2015, 2017 etc.) and 409 course is offered in even years (2014, 2016 etc), since the programs are individualized either course may be selected by grade 11 or grade 12 students. Therefore, a student may choose to do the 409 course in his grade 11 year and the 309 course in his grade 12 year.
