What is Advanced Placement?
The
Advanced Placement (AP®) program at Markville Secondary School strives to continue our tradition of academic achievement and dedication to excellence. This internationally-recognized program provides opportunities for students to enrich their academics through challenging university level content.
The AP® program initiated and run by the College Board has been in existence since 1955. This program has enabled millions of students to take university level courses and exams, while still in high school. More than 18,000 schools worldwide participate in the AP program.
In our classrooms at Markville Secondary School, AP® teachers are preparing students for tomorrow by teaching them how to think and learn today. AP® students learn to construct solid arguments, test theories, and see many sides of an issue — the kind of thinking that solves tough problems both in and outside the classroom, in university and beyond.
Benefits of AP®?
Enrichment - AP® students study topics in greater depth enhancing critical thinking and intellectual development.
Challenge - AP® students will challenge themselves with university level material while they still have the support of a high school environment.
Flexibility - Students can tailor AP® courses to meet their specific interests and academic expertise.
University Level Credits - With appropriate AP exam results, students may be offered a university credit or advanced placement at many universities both within Canada and internationally.
