History
Ross Doan P.S. is named after Dr. A.W. Ross Doan, MA, D.Paed. Dr. Doan was born and spent his early years of teaching in York Region. In 1906, he began teaching in Toronto, later became a principal, and eventually an Inspector of Public Schools. Dr. Doan was the Treasurer of the School Board of T.S.A. #1 of Markham and Vaughan at the time of the school opening in 1957.
Ross Doan P.S. was opened in 1957 as a six room school, housing grades 1 to 8. In 1967, a gymnasium and kindergarten were added. The grade 7 and 8 classes were moved to Roselawn P.S. As the community grew, five portables were added to the site in 1971. In 1978, the portables were removed. From 1980 until 1987, Ross Doan P.S. was twinned with Roselawn P.S. During that time our school severed only kindergarten to grade 2 students.
Since 1987, the population has expanded rapidly. In 1993, a new entrance, six additional classrooms, a staff room, office, and increased storage areas were added. The school included thirteen classrooms and six portable classrooms. As of September 2002, renovations replaced the portable classrooms with five permanent classrooms, a library/resource centre and a gymnasium. In 2013, renovations have been completed to accommodate Full Day Kindergarten (FDK).
Currently, Ross Doan P.S. serves students from kindergarten to grade 3. Grades 4-8 students attend Roselawn P.S. We continue to create many partnerships with our sister school in order to bridge the two schools and provide for seamless transition for our students.
