Principal's Message

To all families, returning and new to our school community, WELCOME!  It is the start of the school year and we are all excited and anticipating wonderful things in the year ahead.  Everyone here is excited to be working with you, the students, and all our staff and community partners.

The beginning of a school year is an exciting time and one that involves significant preparation.  We appreciate the endless days that our caretaking team spent, while still assisting our Family Day Daycare and several community permit holder partners, to ensure that our school is in tip top shape for opening day.

A big thanks goes to our staff who have created inviting classrooms and spent summer time gathering materials to plan and enrich their programs for students.  The classrooms are vibrant and the staff is prepared for another exciting and inspiring school year.  We are fortunate to have a dedicated and exemplary team of teachers and support staff for our students.

Our current population is just over 280 students.  While our school is a smaller school in comparison to most other schools in York Region, we are a unique because we specialize in the academic, social, and emotional development of very young students which helps sets their growth in further years.

We, the staff at Ross Doan Public School, would like to thank you for your partnership and for entrusting us with your precious children.  Please do stay connected through one or all of the following:  ross.doan.ps@yrdsb.ca   and Twitter:  @RossDoan.

We recognize that our students are Modern Learners who thrive with authentic, relevant, deep learning so that they can create, connect, communicate, and share their learning with the world so they are ready for the future.  There are ways that parents/guardians can support this learning and strengthen the partnership between school and home:

·        keep informed about the school through various mediums such as the school newsletter, school website, school Twitter feed, classroom websites, and info screen in our front foyer

·        be a volunteer (even 1 hour per week makes a difference)

·        join us at School Council meetings

·        attend school events and functions

·        communicate with your child’s teacher

·        review the information in the Student Agenda as well as the Boards’ “Guide to the School Year.”

Please note the following dates:

              ·          the first day of school is on September 4.

              ·        our fist School Council meeting is Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Ross Doan

              ·        “meet the teacher” Curriculum Night on September 26, from 6:30-7:30 pm.

              ·        our first Professional Activity (PA) Day is on September 24, during which staff will engage in Health & Safety training activities.  There is NO SCHOOL for students on September 24.

May the year ahead be filled with new and engaging learning opportunities and successes.

Go Rockets Go!
