  8. If you DO NOT FOLLOW your timetable and we cannot find you in class, your request will IMMEDIATELY go to the bottom of the request pile!
  9. Timetable changes cannot be done over the phone or by e-mail.

Please read the following information carefully

  • Counsellors will read your form and if it is clear and can be done, it will be done immediately and you will be called down to pick-up your new timetable.
  • All students must be full-time status.  Full-time status means:
    • Gr. 9 = 8 courses
    • Gr. 10 = 8 courses
    • Gr. 11 = 7 courses
    • Gr. 12 = 6 courses
  • The school reserves the right to consider all request forms equally.
  • Priority may be given to students who require a course(s) for graduation
  • We may not be able to prioritize for: space left in timetable due to courses taken outside Westmount or change of mind with initial course selection
  • Students, parents and guardian understand that a request may effect a student's graduation and/or post-secondary requirements. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student with their parent/guardian to be aware of their remaining graduation requirements and any post-secondary program requirements. Due to time constraints, Counsellors are not able to check credit counseling summaries or give advice during the timetable change process. However, this can be done by appointment anytime after timetable changes are complete. Please note that ALL students received a credit counseling summary in the previous year at course selection.
  • Grade 9 and 10 students WILL NOT be given the opportunity to request a change to their timetable at the start of semester 2. These changes must be done from September to the last day of classes in December in semester 1
  • Timetable changes cannot be done by e-mail or over the phone.
  • All students must be seen once before any student may come back to Guidance and check for a spot in a course for the 2nd or 3rd time. This date and time will be announced using Facebook and Twitter. Students, Parents and Guardians are encouraged to follow @WCIGuidance on Twitter #wcitimetables
  • A space in a course will be given to a student that requires the course to graduate (O.S.S.D.) and to a student who selected the course in the previous year during Course Selection.
  • Students may not drop a course and trade it to a friend.
  • A student that does not have the prerequisite for a course may be pulled out to make room for a student that does have the prerequisite.
  • Priority will be given to a student who selected the course in the previous year.
  • A grade 11 student requesting a grade 12 course MUST wait until the last day of all timetable changes to check for availability in a grade 12 course. This policy is the same for a grade 9 student requesting a grade 10 course and a grade 10 student requesting a grade 11 course.
  • A grade 11 in a grade 12 course will be pulled out of the class if the seat is required for a grade 12 student. The same goes for a grade 10 student in a grade 11 course and a grade 9 student in a grade 10 course. Only in the event that ALL sections of the class in question are full.
  • Grade 9 and 10 students must maintain a full timetable of 8 courses.
  • Grade 9 and 10 students will not be given the opportunity to request a timetable change to semester 2 during the first week of semester 2. These changes must be done during semester 1. Grade 9 and 10 students have 4 months to arrange for a change to their semester 2 timetable.
  • A teacher may not offer, promise or guarantee a student a spot in their course.
  • Students may not "teacher-shop" when requesting a timetable change.
  • A student who drops a course in semester 1 and then requests the same course in semester 2 will be given LAST priority to a spot in the course in semester 2.
  • Students who were checking for a spot in a semester 2 course during semester 1 and a spot did not open must start the process over again in semester 2 by submitting another Request to Change Timetable Form.
