Mission & Values
OUR SCHOOL MISSION:

The Mission of the York Region District School Board is to advance student achievement and well-being through public education, which motivates learners, fosters inclusion, inspires innovation and builds community.
 
In order to support the Board's mission, we work to create an environment at Aldergrove which invites the community into our shared space of learning, ignites learning of self, community and the world; and inspires leadership among students, staff and community members.

In order to engage all of our students and make our school a place where we create dynamic, literate and compassionate world citizens we have 7 key values. Our 7 values have been inspired by the First Nations teachings of the 7 grandfathers whose ancestors welcomed the world to Ontario and Canada.

Our 7 values are Optimism, Innovation, Relationships, Self-Awareness, Inclusivity, Empathy and Citizenship.

We hope to see this demonstrated in our students on a daily basis and believe that these 7 values are critical components that will help them navigate the world which they will inherit.

The values are represented in the following "I" statements which will be shared with students during their time at Aldergrove PS.

Optimism

·      I am someone who can have a positive outlook to each situation.

·       I can seek alternatives and potential solutions when faced with challenges.

·      I know that I can be resilient when in difficult situations.

·      I value a growth mindset and believe that change can have a positive outcome.

Innovation

·      I am a thinker who can think outside of the box.

·      I can look at things critically, creatively, and examine different perspectives in a logical and organized manner.

·      I take the initiative to take risks when I advocate and when I express my ideas.

Relationships

·      I am responsible in making and sustaining positive and respectful relationships with myself, my peers, my family, my community and my environment

·      I understand the reciprocal responsibilities in maintaining a positive relationship with self, others and the environment

·      I am a collaborative individual who values having positive relationships with others

Self-Awareness

·      I am able to know myself as an individual

·      I know, can express and can advocate for my interests, dislikes, strengths, motives, desires, beliefs, values, goals, behaviours and feelings in order to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life

·      I can practice self-regulation in order to maintain positive relationships and in order to achieve my goals

Inclusivity

·      I celebrate and appreciate the differences and similarities in my learning environment

·      I can ensure that my peers and members in my community feel included and a sense of belonging

·      I can help to create an environment where others feel appreciated, heard and valued

Empathy

·      I can listen and act with my heart, mind and spirit

·      I understand that it is my responsibility to put myself in the shoes of others in order to understand the actions and ideas of others

·      I am sensitive to the needs, feelings, thoughts and experiences of others

Citizenship

·      I understand what are the successes and challenges in my community

·      I am responsible for advocating for social justice on a local and global level
