Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Aldergrove P.S. team extends a warm welcome to all new and returning families this year! We hope that summer was an exciting time for all, and scholars are now ready to participate in new adventures of inquiry and learning.  This year, we welcome many new staff members to Aldergrove and we are confident their passion and commitment to our school community will motivate the success of our young scholars.

As your new administrative team, we are inspired to continue the learning journey at Aldergrove by structuring inclusive design within a framework of Social Justice Inquiry. Together we will foster a safe, caring school climate which values social identity and respects the rights of all. Our instructional approaches through critical thinking will develop authentic learning experiences to engage conversations, pose questions, and share perspectives.

Scholars from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will experience learning through a lens of global citizenship, exploring the six frames of Social Justice embedded within concepts in curriculum. They will develop an awareness of the significance of fundamental Human Rights as citizens of a democratic society. Scholars will identify social justice issues of privilege, power, advocacy, voice, perspective and opportunity, recognizing many opportunities to become advocates for change!

Aldergrove staff will promote student engagement, voice and well-being by integrating the social-identities of our scholars with curriculum and teaching resources. As parents and guardians, you have an important role in positioning your family voice, perspectives and rich stories to enrich the content of learning. Scholars will participate in learning by taking ownership for co-constructing learning goals and success criteria to support their understanding of success.

Assessment informs instruction, and offers students opportunities to develop a Growth Mindset, where the process of learning motivates engagement and success. Math will be an area of continued focus as we explore the five strands through a Comprehensive Math Program and Math Inquiry.  Our focus on the Whole Child  supports mental, physical, spiritual and emotional well-being for scholars and families through all of our daily actions as a staff.

We have included the Aldergrove P.S. Start-up Information Package 2018-2019 for each scholar. Please read and review this with your child as it contains very important information about the daily routines and expectations. There are also mandatory forms to be signed and returned to the school. As always, we are available to help with the information and/or any questions you may have in order to complete them.

Your active participation will help promote your child’s success at school. We look forward to your partnership, voice, advocacy and collaboration this year!

Sincerely,

Padmini Padiachy & Rita de Ala
