Each year in October, we are happy to meet interested students and parents at our annual IB Information Evening. We are pleased to announce that in October 2023 we will be hosting an in-person session for students, parents and guardians who live within Bayview's IB boundaries to join us to learn more about our school and the IB Programme.


We invite Grade 8 students interested in applying to begin Grade 9 in September 2023 to join us at the information evening at ​7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

2022-2023 Application Requirements for Bayview Secondary's IB Programme


  • Live in York Region within Bayview's IB catchment area at time of application


  • Be a student currently in Grade 8


  • ​​STEP 1: Complete the online registration process

    • This process is completed through EDSBY. See the links at the top of this page for instructions on how to create an account and how to log in.

  • STEP 2: Submit the Grade 7 Final Report Card

    • Current YRDSB students who completed Grade 7 at a YRDSB school are not required to take action. We will receive your report card information directly from the system

    • Students who currently attend school outside of the YRDSB and those who did not complete Grade 7 in YRDSB, should submit a scanned copy of each side of the Final Grade 7 Report Card to a Google Form.

    • ​​The Google Form link will be shared via email sent on Tuesday, November 8, 2022

    • Please name the attached file: StudentLastName StudentFirstName Report Card this will help us to match your report card with your application

    • Please submit your report card by 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022


  • STEP 3: Complete and submit a Personal Portfolio

    • Select three (3) life experiences that have shaped you as an individual

    • Choose an artifact that visually represents each experience

      • For the purpose of this task, an artifact is a visual or graphic representation of an experience. Experience may include a life event, a trip you’ve taken, a community event, a personal accomplishment (as you define it), your participation in an activity, your involvement in the creation of something, or a tradition.

    • For each artifact:

      • Explain what you have learned about yourself through the experience

      • Explain how you could apply this learning in future

        • You have a maximum of 75 words to answer these questions for each artifact

    • The Personal Portfolio will be formatted as a Google Slide Presentation

    • Applicants will receive an email after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 with detailed instructions about how to format and submit the Portfolio

      • Students will only be able to submit their Portfolios after receiving the instruction email

      • YRDSB students will receive the email in their gapps email

      • NonYRDSB students will receive the email in the student email entered in EDSBY during step one

    • The Portfolio is about the applicant. We encourage students to complete this task independently and honestly

    • The Portfolio submission deadline is: 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022 


  • STEP 4: Participate in an in-person Admissions Assessment

    • During the EDSBY application, you will select an assessment day and time:

      • Wednesday, November 16, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

OR

  • Saturday, November 19, 2022 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

  • The assessment will be hosted at Bayview Secondary School

  • During the assessment, applicants will receive a prompt and will have 40 minutes to plan, write and edit their response

    • The response should be written in full sentences and organized in paragraph form

    • Answers will be assessed for the ideas shared and the clear communication of those ideas

Registration

 

The York Region District School Board IB Programme application is completed centrally for all York Region IB Schools through the EDSBY platform. The central application is for offerings at Alexander Mackenzie High School, Bayview Secondary School, Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School, Maple High School and Milliken Mills High School. 

 

During the application process, the YRDSB IB School serving your home address will be identified. Regrettably, we are not able to consider applicants who live outside of Bayview's IB boundaries. 

 

 ​Please be sure to complete the application during the application window. 

We are not able to accept late applications.


​We do not recommend any special preparation or study for the admissions assessment.

 

Be advised individual results/standings will not be released. Submitting an application indicates that you understand and will adhere to this policy.​
