The IB Diploma Programme at Bayview
INTRODUCTION

Thank you for your interest in Bayview Secondary School's International Baccalaureate Programme. We are very proud to have been a member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Community since 2003.

IB Candidates in the York Region District School Board begin by taking enriched core courses in their Grade 9 and 10 years, and by fast tracking some of their core courses to help them prepare for the demands of their IB course work and examinations. Students meet the requirements of the IB Diploma in Grade 11 and Grade 12. Please note that we are a full Diploma Programme and do not offer Subject Certificates.

This link provides an overview of the IB goals and approaches to education.

THE IB PROGRAMME AND NOTES ON COURSE SELECTION

Students in our IB Programme earn both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

All IB Candidates participate in the following IB Core components:

Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) Experiences
Theory of Knowledge Course (ToK)
Extended Essay

Currently, Bayview Secondary School offers the following course of study:

HL Language A Literature (English)
SL Language B French
HL History or HL Economics
HL Biology or HL Chemistry
SL Mathematics
SL Theatre Arts or SL Visual Arts or SL Biology or SL Physics

Students who have an interest or plan to enter a science related field are able to take two of the science subjects through the IB Diploma but they are not able to take all three sciences. Those who wish to take all three sciences are encouraged to speak with the Guidance Department to learn about scheduling options. It is important to recognize that we will do our best to accommodate our students' course selection in all grade levels but we cannot guarantee that students will receive their first choice selections. While the courses listed above are offered, courses will only run if there is sufficient student demand.

Information and course selection considerations for Grade 8 students can be found by selecting this link.
