Specialty Programs

In addition to offering a full range of courses  in a variety of programs, we are pleased to offer the following specialty programs:

Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue university-level studies while in high school. Based on their performance on rigorous AP Examinations, students can earn credit, advanced placement, or both for university.

Hodan Nalayeh Secondary School’s AP courses start in Grade 11 in English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science.  Students who complete the grade 12 AP courses can write the Examinations in May of their Grade 12 year.

French Immersion

Students can continue in the French Immersion program at our school after graduating from a French Immersion program at their Elementary School. Upon completing 10 French Immersion courses, students are eligible to receive a French Immersion Certificate, which is granted at the Leaving Ceremony in June of their graduating year.

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)

The SHSM is a specialized, Ministry-approved program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

SHSM helps the student transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace.

These programs enable students to gain sector-specific skills and knowledge in engaging, career-related learning environments and prepare in a focused way for graduation and postsecondary education, training, or employment.
