Our Challenge of Practice:
At Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School, most
students want to be successful and tend to be extrinsically motivated. They are academically, socially and/or
emotionally driven and very involved in the school and community. However,
there are some students who struggle to develop motivation and learning skills
and have a lack of content engagement.
Based on student and staff feedback, as a school, we are striving to
build better relationships. Therefore,
we need strategies and opportunities to collaborate with staff members to get
to know our learners to increase student engagement through differentiated
instruction and student motivation.
Our Theory of Action:
If we
deepen our understanding of learners to build stronger relationships and
sustain emotionally safe environments and if we continue to develop intentional
pedagogy then learners will practice resiliency, be more intrinsically
motivated and intellectually engaged in learning.
Our School Goals:
By June 2015, staff and students will demonstrate
the connection between wellness, resilience and success.
By June 2015, 100% of the staff will be implementing critical
thinking strategies to engage students.
By June 2015, 99% of our students can
recognize that critical thinking is valued in our school community.
By June 2015, the percentage of students
achieving at a level 3 or higher in the thinking category of the achievement
chart will increase by 3%.
By June 2015, 50% (minimum) of all students are
able to use various resources and opportunities to set goals about their
pathway, establish how to get there, and are able to revise both the goal and
the pathway as they continuously evaluate their progress.
By June 2015, 75% (minimum) of staff will be
familiar with all pathways: university,
college, apprenticeship, workplace.
