Something for Everyone

The KHS Music Department offers programs for students of all abilities and interests, including classes in Instrumental Music, Repertoire (after-school band), Vocal Music, and Guitar. Our classes explore the role of music in society, develop performance skills, and apply music theory through performance. Students are also pushed to explore various styles of music through listening activities and music chosen in-class.

Check out our course offerings, the rest of this website, and social media pages to see what music at KHS is all about. There is something for everyone, and no experience is required!

A Place to Belong

Music is inherently a welcoming and supportive environment - one where students across various grades and backgrounds encourage, support, and learn from one another to reach their full potential. Repertoire runs throughout the whole school year and is especially great for meeting new friends, participating in field trips, and learning from various guest musicians!

Our department offerings are supported by an active and engaged group of student leaders known as the KHS Music Council! The Music Council is responsible for school-wide fundraisers, department socials/events, and supporting various school initiatives. Some of their recent initiatives have been Krispy Kreme fundraisers, the KHS Coffee House, the Music Fall Potluck, and a Holiday Movie Night.

Performance Opportunities

The Music Department is actively engaged in organizing and performing at school events and beyond! Some examples include Remembrance Day Assemblies, impromptu lobby concerts, the Ontario Band Association Festival, KHS Fine Arts Winter and Spring Showcases, the KHS Coffee House, and Graduation.

Our school groups have also performed for many incredible organizations and events, including the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, and AHL's Toronto Marlies, the Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival, Keswick and Sutton Santa Claus Parades, and appearances on RogersTV. Our bands have also performed very well at Regional Music Festivals, earning top marks and invitations to MusicFest Canada Nationals for several years.
