Concussion Protocol - YRDSB

Recognizing the serious effects concussions can have on student learning, achievement and well-being, the Board is committed to working with parent(s)/guardian(s) and community partners to provide appropriate support to prevent and minimize the risk of sustained concussions.

If you suspect that your child may have a concussion, keep them at home and follow the YRDSB Concussion Management Protocol;

  1. notify the school;

  2. have a physician/RN complete all pages of the Concussion Tracking Form;

  3. submit completed Tracking form to the main office.

Your child may return to school under the following conditions;

  1. No concussion is suspected (Part 1 MUST be completed and returned to the main office);

  2. Concussion is suspected and the child is at a minimum of Stage 4 of the YRDSB RETURN-TO-LEARN PROTOCOL ;

  3. Review YRDSB Concussion Management Guidelines.

Upon return to school, the student will meet with their Vice-Principal to establish their individual plans to return to learn and/or sport according to their physician’s recommendations.
