ESL Grade 8 Open House

Every year, students from different parts of the world come to study at Trudeau, and they arrive at our school as English Language Learners - students who are learning the language of instruction at the same time as they are learning the curriculum. As such, the goal of the PETHS ESL program is to provide the knowledge and skills that our English Language Learners need to be successful at school and in society.

The ESL teachers and previous ELL students are here to support all ESL students at Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School with the transition and their language learning.

The ESL Curriculum is divided in 5 different courses, ranging from ESL A, B, C, D, to ESL E. Once students finish the ESL program, they are ready and prepared for mainstream English classes!

To achieve this goal, our program aims to prepare students who can:

1.Understand spoken English and speak in English to communicate for a variety of classroom and social purposes;
2.Read different genres of texts and use different reading strategies to obtain meaning outside of texts;
3.Organize ideas and write for different purposes and audiences;
4.Develop critical thinking skills and demonstrate understanding of pertinent Canadian and world issues through the use of technology and interpretation of digital media.
