Learning to communicate effectively is one of
the most important skills a student can develop in high school. Being able to
express your thoughts and ideas in clear, creative and interesting ways is key
to succeeding in life, and the Drama Department will help you with just that.
Do you need to be a good actor to take Drama? No. We want students who are willing to work and learn and grow, regardless of whether or not they think they’re good actors. All you need to be is willing to take a chance, and to work with your classmates on some fun activities and projects.
Students in Drama learn how to work in groups to solve problems through collaboration and consensus building. They work with a variety of source materials to create innovative and meaningful creative works that examine important social and personal issues, and gain the skill and confidence to present those works in front of an audience. They learn to think critically about their own work and the work of others, how to communicate that to others in a supportive and helpful way, and how to take criticism
and use it to improve their own work.
Most importantly, Drama is a supportive environment that allows students to take risks and push themselves creatively. Students have fun, and the skills they learn can be applied to their other classwork, and to their everyday life.
Students can take Drama in all four years of high school. Students can take both Grade 9 and 10 Drama, and need either of these credits to take Grade 11. Grade 11 and 12 Drama are M-level courses, which means that the credits can be used for either College or University admission.
