The mathematics department will be helping
students develop a mathematical mindset- understanding that mistakes are part
of learning, increasing the growth mindset, and developing a critical
understanding of mathematics based on the research by Jo Boaler. The collaboration and communication of
mathematics is emphasized throughout the course and reinforced through white
board activities and group work based on the research of Peter Liljendahl.
Certain topics within some courses lend themselves to spiraling through
the curriculum. Spiraling through different strands of expectations helps
with students’ retention of mathematics by providing students with multiple
opportunities to reinforce critical concepts.
