The Drama department at BHSS strives to empower students to see
the world through the lens of possibility.
Students will explore the idea that through our combined commitment to
seeing new possibilities in ourselves, our community and our world, we can
create a new reality. To do this, students
will investigate pervasive issues that are relevant to them and, in crafting
and performing socially conscious theatrical works, students will present
solutions, raise awareness, and foster empathy.
Also, students will trace the history of theatre by examining the role
that theatre has played throughout the ages, thinking critically about the
value of theatre as a civilizing influence on society.
In addition, students will garner skills that will serve them well
in their life outside of the classroom. For
example, students will not only develop specialized skills that are essential
to theatrical performance and production, students will also cultivate skills
that are inherent to being a strong leader and academic achiever — literacy, communication,
critical decision-making, adaptability, collaboration, problem-solving,
teamwork and creative thinking— among other skills.
BHSS’s theatre is modelled after professional theatres, which
enables students to push the boundaries of theatrical creation. All Drama classes are held in our
state-of-the-art theatre, which is a key part of the immersive experience.
Through extensive work in mime, movement, improvisation, voice
acting, play-study, playwriting, puppetry, filmmaking —and much more—students
will gain exposure to a wide range of theatrical knowledge.
The BHSS
Drama program welcomes all interested students, no prior experience or audition
is necessary.
