Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Drama - Grade 9
|
This course provides
opportunities for students to develop communication skills using dramatic
forms and techniques from a wide range of sources and cultures. Students will
use the elements of drama and technology to examine situations and issues
that are relevant to their lives. Students will create, perform, discuss, and
analyse drama, and then reflect on the experiences to develop an
understanding of themselves, the art form, and the world around them. The
course culminates with a class production and/or an evening of theatre.

Drama - Grade 10
|
This course provides
opportunities for students to develop and improve communication skills
through exploring dramatic forms, conventions, and techniques. Students will
explore a variety of dramatic sources from various cultures and representing
a range of genres. Students will use various forms of technology and will
assume responsibility for decisions made in the creative and collaborative processes.
The course culminates in a group performance and/or an evening of theatre.
Grade 9 Drama recommended.

Drama - Grade 11
|
This course builds
upon the skills introduced and explored in Grades 9 and 10. Students explore
theatre conventions and are introduced to the works of selected major
playwrights from the period of classical Greek drama, as well as those from
the turn of the 20th century. Character building and script analysis prepares
students for a higher degree of performance capabilities. Building on
co-operative communication skills and creative collaboration, students will
work on developing workshops for our partner schools based on theatre from
around the world. Students will have the opportunity to further develop their
skill in theatre technology as well as other sound technology and sound FX.

Drama - Grade 12
|
This course provides
opportunities for students to experiment individually and collaboratively
with forms and conventions of both drama and theatre from various cultures
and both classical and contemporary time periods. Students will interpret
dramatic literature and other texts and media sources while learning about
various theories of directing and acting. Students work within the culture of
'ensemble' and experience the creative dynamics of a theatre company. In
contrast, students will also have the opportunity to explore working alone on
a culminating piece that also will develop research skills. Students will
analyse how the knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their
personal skills, social awareness, and goals beyond secondary school.
