Student Success at Markville SS
The Student Success Team at Markville SS meets weekly to provide extra attention to students that need it, review data, determine next steps, identify caring adults for students in risk, outline interventions, plan transition activities and support teacher and community development.

Our Program
Each student is unique and learns in their own way. The focus of the Student Success Program at Markville Secondary School is to support all students and ensure that all students in Grades 9-12 have the learning opportunities and supports they need to be successful in school and beyond. With a focus on student engagement, Student Success provides new and relevant learning opportunities that build on students' interests, strengths as well as their learning needs.

Some of the ways that Student Success supports learning opportunities include:

  • Transition planning and activities to ensure that students have a smooth transition from elementary to high school or from a new school, as well as a purposeful exit strategy upon graduation;
  • Advocacy, social/emotional support, attendance, and academic support through student monitoring and meetings between students and Student Success teachers, and/or other resources within the school and the larger community;
  • Credit rescuing and Credit Recovery to support students during and after a course to achieve success where appropriate;
  • Pathways planning support and guidance;
  • Providing student advocacy and mentorship;
  • Providing individualized learning attention and support
  • Connecting students with alternative learning opportunities, such as co-operative education, Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM), dual credits and e-learning; and
  • Helping students navigate access to additional supports within and beyond the school community.
